"Sherlock Holmes"
The World's Most Famous Detective

In 1885 Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle was a young doctor working in Southsea,England. It is said he was visited by a local detective investigating the death of an in-patient where he was working. The unfortunate patient had died of meningitis, it was explained to the police officer. This visit by the police somewhat rattled Doyle for he surmised there was a very thin line between being believed and not believed and thus facing the gallows for unlawful killing of a patient.
This set the young Doctor Doyle on the path of writing crime stories and in 1887 wrote and published the first of his 'Sherlock Holmes' novels: "A Study In Scarlet".
Resident at 221b, Baker street, London, 'Sherlock Holmes' started his detective work and solved innumerable crimes with the aid of his friend and companion 'Dr. Watson'.
The most famous English detective has spawned fan clubs all over the world, and inspired actors to portray 'Sherlock Holmes' on stage and screen.
There is a never ending supply of re-published "Sherlock Holmes' novels every year and regular hunting through old second-hand bookshops to find the rare first editions which have become quite collectible.
